The Shipping Forecast is a film made at the Royal College of Art in 2010. The soundtrack comes from the Shipping Forecast describing the weather for fishermen out at sea. The film itself features an indoor snowstorm and the eerie sound of the wind outside. It depicts both the inside and outside of a building at the same time. This is a familiar theme in my practice and relates to the psychological state of dissociation which is perhaps another version of feeling ‘at sea’. It is also influenced by the formal theatrical techniques of Bertolt Brecht at times when he sought to reveal the construction of the set as a counterpoint to the smooth theatrical realism present in his time.
